CMS OUTDOOR ED Sincethe 1970’s Community Middle School’s sixth graders have been taking part in an Outdoor Education Program called “Outdoor Ed.” This year is no different. Sixth grade CMS students will be spending three days at Camp Canadensis in Canadensis, PA, from Wednesday, June 6th till Friday,June 8th, learning about science in “nature’s classroom”…. the great outdoors.

DID YOU KNOW THAT CMS IS TRYING TO SET A RUBIK’S CUBE WORLD RECORD?
WW-P wants to set the world’s record: the record for the number of people solving Rubik’s Cube at the same time in the same venue. The current world’s record was set by 300 people, and WW-P aims to gather about 500 people.
Don’t know how to solve a Rubik’s Cube? The next Rubik’s Cube Record practice will be on Wednesday, February 8th. Anyone interested in learning how to solve or help others to solve is welcome. New participants are welcome as well.

IS YOUR CHILD INTERESTED IN PLAYING A SPRING SPORT?
Spring Sports packets are due to the nurse’s office by February 24th.
Spring sports offered are boys and girls lacrosse, tennis (co-ed), baseball, softball, and track and field (co-ed). Both a sports packet and a current physical are necessary to participate. A current physical is one dated after March 4, 2011. You can check with school nurse, Mrs. Doyle, to determine if your child’s physical is still current. Sixth graders can participate in track and field.

CMS PTSA’S NOMINATING COMMITTEE NEEDS YOU!!
Three volunteers are needed to serve on our Nominating Committee. Volunteers will be asked to accept and coordinate nominations for the CMS PTSA Executive Board for the 2012-2013 School Year. If you have questions or would like to volunteer, email CMS PTSA VP Toni Hendry.

CMS PTSA BYLAWS AMENDMENT
At our next meeting on Thursday, March 22nd at 7:30PM, CMS PTSA will be voting to amend its bylaws to increase dues from $5.00 to $6.00 effective with the 2012-2013 school.
This increase has become necessary as a result of increases in dues that must be paid to New Jersey PTA and National PTA.

NAVIANCE is here and ready to begin!
All CMS families received a letter over winter break introducing families to the NAVIANCE “Family Connection” program. This innovative program helps students set academic goals, diagnose their learning styles, and explore career options for their futures. The letter included instructions for logging your child into his/her account. If you have not done so, please complete the log-in procedure ASAP. The Guidance Department will begin NAVIANCE lessons soon.
Contact your son’s/daughter’s guidance counselor if you need further assistance.

CALLING ALL ATHLETES!
Athletes For Action (AFA) is a service organization at Community Middle School. CMS students who are active in any sport (inside or outside of school) are encouraged to join this group, sponsored by CMS and the PTSA. The goal for this organization is to allow student athletes the opportunity to provide service and support to charitable organizations within our community. We’re looking to use our talents to improve the lives of those around us. If you are interested in becoming a member of Athletes for Action, please fill an AFA Membership Form and return it to the main office in an envelope marked “Athletes For Action.”

LET’S LIGHT NORTH!
The WWPHS Boosters are committed to having the lights installed in both high schools by next summer. They need to raise $100K by then. Between, the 3 fundraisers planned for this school year and the sales of the pole advertisements, it can be done.
We need to show the Booster Club that we want the lights at North. If you don’t have the time to volunteer, here is what you can do to show your support:
